The genie was my the biggest fear when I was a child...Well, genies are still my fear because I have listened to lots of stories about genies and in Turkey We believe that some of those stories are REAL!!!

The spooky tree outside my bedroom window cast a shadow that traveled around my room and over my bed on my bedroom walls whenever a car passed by on our road! I was terrified that that shadow would reach down and grab me to pull me out of my bed and home.

I loved to play in them by day, but at night, you couldn't get me anywhere near them, for I thought that there was where the ghosts, demons & spirits were summoned to start their nightly prowling! 2006-09-25 [Kuehne]: when i was a kid, i had a slightly different twist on a common childhood fear. I had to pay a tribute to the monster under the bed so that it wouldn't eat me at night. I had to feed him or he'd eat me.. lol

2006-09-25 [toycar]: I was told by my older sister that anyone with green eyes could stay awake all night. That would have been okay, but then she also told me that they eat your toenails and fingernails completely off, so you dont grow any, anymore. I am yet to figure out why that freaked me out so much, but i actually had a doll with green eyes, that i ended up somewhat blending in the sink..dispenser thing. o.o

2006-09-26 [Lady of Lore]: lol, my mom told me there was a ghost that stole your belly button of you didn't cover it while you were sleeping. It's funny to think of now but then it really scared me.

2006-09-27 [Talkris]: I never had the fears. I always supplied them. I used to take real stories, like the ones of Jack the Ripper and such, and twist them to ungodly levels and then tell them to my cousins. Most of them are 17-20 years old now and they're still afraid. *laughs* My aunts have never forgiven me.

2006-09-28 [Kuehne]: i thought genies were good things.. you know, granting wishes and all that. I didn't know they were something that were to be feared.

I was dead afraid of Katla in Brothers Lionheart, and the Groke in Moomin... >_> Plus this little animated advertisement they show in Finland at winter time, warning children from going on the ice of sea/lakes/rivers. I'm still afraid of that ad, and they still show it on tv.

2006-10-03 [Linderel]: It was the bogey character in Moomin... Really scary. But later on it's shown that she's more lonely than anything else.

2006-10-03 [Linderel]: The whole thing was kind of ruined for me when some bright person decided to call me "Moominmamma" - mockingly. Stupid to let it affect me, I know, but I never was good at fending off hurtful words. :P
